Group email: Non Fiction Reading group
When: Monthly on Monday afternoons 1:30 pm-3:00 pm
3rd Monday each Month
Venue: Saltburn Arts Community Hall (SCAA)

We will meet on Monday 16 February, 1.30pm to 3pm at the back of the Saltburn Community Hall.

Let's start with what the group is not! It is not a history group, science group, political or religious group. It's not about travel, it's not self help, science, maths or a true-crime interest group.

So here's what it could be:

It's a chance to read and share books that delve into themes and perspectives that explore what is happening in the world at this time and the group members will look at what is the deeper meaning of these events that have taken place and their impact on us today. It can provide a unique opportunity to explore current issues, gain new knowledge, fresh perspectives and understanding. Likely topics will be how to live a meaningful life in an age of bewilderment, what makes a good life and a good society, how we live now and our collective general well-being.

The books will be thought-provoking and will provide a solid foundation for meaningful thought and conversation.

The book chosen by the group for discussion in February will be SAPIENS BY Yuval Noah Harari.

'Interesting and provocative ... It gives you a sense of how briefly we've been on this Earth.'

Barak Obama

What makes us brilliant? What makes us deadly? What makes us Sapiens?

One of the world's pre-eminent historians and thinkers, Yuval Noah Harari challenges everything we know about being human.

Earth is 4.5 billion years old. In just a fraction of that time, one species among countless others has conquered it: us.

In this bold and provocative book, Yuval Noah Harari explores who we are, how we got here and where we're going.
