Our French Conversation Group has been running now for over 3 years.

The group is intended for people with some knowledge of spoken French, whether “O” level all those years ago, or more recent language knowledge acquisition.

We enjoy many ways of expressing ourselves in French.

We practise every day conversations whether to do with finding our way in a strange town or choosing a delicious meal. The French love food so we have discussed French cookery terms and produced an illustrated cook book highlighting both English and French classic dishes.

We know how to talk about our family , our hobbies and where we live. Recently we have together produced an illustrated brochure all about our diverse area .

We enjoy glimpses of French culture reading poems and finding out about famous literary figures. We have written poetic descriptions of Autumn and of Winter. Together we have written our own book of poems –all about gardening and D.I.Y. using classical French alexandrine lines of poetry—all in fun ! Our latest Livret de Poésie will contain poems based both figuratively and pictorially around a letter of the alphabet.

Our dramatic productions are much enjoyed. The plays are developed by us, often after having been devised and written by the late Bernard Storey.

We act our plays at a monthly update meeting –in full costume with scenery and all in French.

We learn lots of vocabulary and some grammar to help strengthen and expand our capabilities. We use dictionaries , keep notes and we use work sheets and résumés done for us by Sally.

We use the internet for information especially news items taken from French sites. Le Tour de France was a major project for us when Le Grand Départ was in Le Yorkshire!

We have welcomed visitors from France –from teenagers to older people -- and we enjoy entertaining and speaking French with them.
