As you would expect, Circle Dances are danced in a circle and there’s no need to bring a partner. The group is of mixed abilities, experienced and beginners are welcome.

You’ll find simple folk dances from many countries, ranging from uplifting and joyous, meditative and calming, old and new. There are usually faster dances earlier in the class and slower, calming and meditative dances towards the end.

Please wear comfortable clothes and soft shoes, come and enjoy yourself and make new friends! You’re welcome to sit down whenever you wish.

The circle is an ancient and universal symbol of wholeness and unity. Dancing in a circle is one of the most ancient ways in which people celebrated community and togetherness, coming together to celebrate springtime and harvest, marriage and birth using established steps and patterns.

The original collection of Circle Dances was compiled by Bernhard Wosien and in 1976 the Findhorn spiritual community in Scotland invited Bernhard to take his collection there, where they flourished.

These included rich traditional dances from the Balkans, Greece, Israel, Russia, France and Celtic Britain. Today, the repertoire has been expanded by other dances with modern choreographies. They are set to a wide variety of music and songs from around the world - including contemporary music. Some of the music is really beautiful

As the popularity of Circle dancing continues to grow, there are opportunities to dance in the UK for a day or enjoy a dancing holiday; and there are opportunities to dance abroad.
