Saltburn District

Buttercups and Beer

(May 2026 theme: It only takes one person to make a difference)

Come in and sit, you’re welcome here

In days of buttercups and beer

The sun is shining, clouds are gone

Sit right down and join the fun.

The dogs don’t bark, the rain won’t fall

No one cries so no tears fall

Clouds don’t dare to blot the sky

On every face you see a smile

All the things we didn’t choose

Like misery in the daily news

Or weapons, lies from our MPs

are at the bottom of the seas

The willingness to seek advice

From social media with its lies

The accusations spreading hate

We washed them down the gutter’s grate

Greed and prejudice forgotten

Poverty and all things rotten

out of sight and put away

so they can’t come back again

Maybe you are having doubts

Could this really come about

How could this change be provided?

Just refuse to be divided.

If every colour, every creed

wished each other to succeed

We could end toxicity

So be the change you want to see.

The Lucky Charm

(November'2026 theme: Lucky Charm)

When the future is unclear

You unglove my palm

And when I’m lost

You take my arm

When I feel vulnerable

You never harm

I tilt at windmills

And you disarm

I’m overheated

And you calm

When I’m unravelling

you darn

I’m lucky

You’re the charm.
